Men’s Fashion – Summer Sandal Mistakes To Avoid

When it comes to matters footwear for men, none other footwear presents potential pitfall as does sandals. Sandals can be too hippy, feminine, chunky or plain ugly. In this article I present do’s and don’ts of men’s sandals. Keenly observing these sandal dos and don’t s will help you trot to the shore all summer in confidence and even to work in a sandaled chic manner.

Sandals don’t s

Talk of the world worst sandal offenders and those types designed for outdoor activity come up top. This sandal looks more of full on shoe with cutouts than chic summer sandal. There’s no doubt about its comfort given the sizable lug sole and synthetic water absorbent material. As much this sandal are comfy, they may not be suitable for all occasions outside of what they were designed for. If you’re going hiking then you better get some good boots and not these sandals.

Birkenstock USA

Tevas and Birkenstock are best suited for a sit in and not a night out with the boys. If you owned a pair of these at the summer camp and gleefully wore then with some subtly witty shirt, necklace and shorts, then it’s time you grew up. Good masculine sandal ought to convey casual sophistication and not a bonfire. As much as these shoes are supposed to be practical, their inability to resist moisture and a high price tag speaks to the contrary. If you put them on for a stroll to the shore, then be prepared to dry them for days and you may also have to put up with the awful smell.

Don’t cover up Socks and sandals

Tracing the sandal sock combination is a nearly impossible task, but come summer then you’re sure to spot many offenders loyal to this fashion disgrace. A stroll to the local museum, shopping mall, amusement park and most other places where European tourists converge and you’re sure to find a sock covered feet neatly strangled in sandal terribly in need of air. It’s sad news for a continent that is seen as the fashion trend setter and for once this is definitely something you don’t wanna go Euro.

Don’t buy in bulk

Do you know Dr. Martens still exists? This iconic 90s thing with black shoe or boots with orange stitching enjoyed it’s time. What I don’t find surprising is that if Dr. Martens were to design sandals, then they’d be just as cumbersome. Summer is meant for light and comfortable shoes, and going for heavy shoes that look like a block of wood on your foot deviates from the purpose.

Don’t slide around

Athletic slip-ons should be left to sideline soccer players. It may seem convenient and easy to slip your foot into a lightweight rubber or foam sandals, but this is not a fashion statement you wanna make outside your home turf. These sandals have very limited survival ability outside normal habitat despite of their sturdiness. Irrespective of how you wear them, you’ll always portray the look of an “out of practice” soccer player and I doubt if even Beckam would wear them.

Men’s Fashion Trends How To Mix & Match Patterns

Men always like to dress for success. Whether off to a business meeting or getting together with clients for cocktails, a man wants to make sure that he looks sharp and stylish. Wearing the right shoes and making sure that their hair is in the right place are both part of the preparation. However, choosing the right outfit is a bigger element of the process.

In order to look great, it pays to have a basic understanding about clothing details. One of the challenges is how to match various colors and patterns to create different fashion styles. Some men can effortlessly match a tie to a shirt or suit. Others may not be as confident when it comes to mixing and matching. Here are some basic style tips that will help you coordinate your wardrobe.

Back To Basics

Basic colors are essential wardrobe elements that help you dress for success. Black, white, brown, grey — these neutral shades are the items upon which you can build an outfit. They balance out whatever bright or bold colors you’re wearing.

For example, if you want to give full attention to your tie, wear it against a clean, white dress shirt. A plain white shirt is like a canvas that emphasizes and enhances your tie’s design and pattern. In times of doubt, wear a basic colored shirt and you won’t go wrong.

Coordinating Colors

Clothes with solid or single colors require a little more effort and thought. You can still dress for success with colors such as yellow, blue, green and the rest of the spectrum. These colors can look great when paired the right way. One way to go is to match the same color shirt and tie. However, if you want each color to pop then it’s best to coordinate the colors. Coordinating colors means matching two different colors that go well together.

For instance, a light pink shirt would go well with a navy blue suit. Blue shirts are perfect for complementing your yellow, red or gold tie. One quick tip is to choose colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel. These types of colors are called complementary colors and look great when matched with each other.

Mixing and Matching Patterns

We’ve covered the basics and mastered the color wheel. Now, it’s time to stir things up a bit. Let now talk about how to dress for success with patterns.

Patterns provide an element of texture to your wardrobe. Don’t worry, patterns are not as hard to match as you think. The goal is to prevent an optical train wreck and instead achieve a natural and smooth transition between two or three patterns. The trick to doing that is to use patterns with different scales.

For striped patterns, the size of the stripes as well as the spacing between them makes a big difference. Make sure that these two elements are as different as possible. If two small stripes are matched with each other, there is no accent on either one of them. Similarly, when two different stripes with similar spacing are matched, it can seem confusing as to which striped pattern should get the attention.

The same theory applies to mixing checks. Checks are more intense compared to stripes so it can be a little more of a challenge. Just remember to avoid using two checks of similar size. Instead, use contrasting scaled checks for a smooth transition of patterns and texture.

Bringing it all together, colors, designs and patterns are important factors when dressing for success. Keep in mind that you can’t go wrong with the basics, so when in doubt, use neutral shades. When choosing to wear a more colorful outfit, make sure to use complementary colors. And when it comes to mixing and matching designs, patterns are great as long as they differ.

Men’s fashion trends 50s inspired style

Since 2007, the TV series Mad Men has encouraged a new trend in women’s fashion, with printed dresses and intricate hairstyles all the rage, but for men the show has left little options. Tailored suits and polished shoes are fine to a point, but away from the office the modern man needs to look outside of this show for his 50s inspired style. .

It might seem unlikely, but current fashion trends are more similar to the outfits worn by the Happy Days cast than Don Draper and his colleagues. A dark, understated blazer or cardigan over a light coloured shirt looks great with jeans or chinos; as long as you don’t tell anyone that you’re style icon is Richie Cunningham. Alternatively, these can be smartened up with formal trousers, a white shirt and a skinny tie to achieve a look reminiscent of Mad Men, but which is not so formal as to be office-wear.

Another great Happy Days trend to come back into fashion over winter was patterned knitwear. Usually these use neutral tones, which could be teamed with chinos for a preppy look or with jeans for a more masculine, rugged style.

In the 1950s men also took their fashion cues from the westerns of the period. Shows like the Lone Ranger, Rawhide and Gunsmoke filled the television schedule, and men began to dress accordingly. Although the more extreme versions of the cowboy shirt look appropriate only at rodeos and square dancing events, a chequered shirt with jeans is ideal for a hot summer’s day. When it gets cooler, a flannel shirt again delivers a rugged, outdoorsy style.

When styling hair, it isn’t hard to see a growing trend in celebrities who have taken their inspiration from the 50s. Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars and Robert Pattinson are all guilty of waxing their hair as high as it will go, with the Fonz and the boys from Grease an obvious inspiration. To achieve the same look, let your hair grow first so that you have something to work with, then cover it in product and shape. It’s worth noting that although the hairstyle came back, the leather jackets didn’t.

For a different 50s-inspired hairdo, compare Glee’s Darren Criss to the cast of Mad Men. Again a lot of product is used, but with this look it is used to hold the hair down, and perfectly in place.

The answer then is to look outside of Mad Men. That show may have started the trend, but for men the 50s style gaining in popularity today is based more on cowboys and Happy Days.
